Holocaust Selfies

With the increasing popularity of Instagram, it’s becoming fashionable for young people in Kaunas to visit the mass murder site at the city’s Ninth Fort and to photograph themselves having fun on and around the huge concrete Holocaust Monument.

The monument marks the place where over 30,000 European Jews were buried after being murdered by the Nazis and their local helpers.

We’re not here to shame these young people. We know they’re mostly good kids like most kids are. The problem lies with the Lithuanian State, which continues to let its young people down by not teaching them the full story of the Holocaust.

Find out more about our 50 Schools project here and please consider making a donation so we can get out there and carry out the work the Lithuanian State is failing to deliver. Thank you.
